The cottage is located on the B6357 approximately 1 mile outside the village of Newcastleton,close to the Border, alongside Liddle Water

In earlier times this area was the Border Reiver country, known as 'The Debatable Land', home of the Armstrongs and Elliots. 

Newcastleton  is a planned village  founded in 1793 by the Duke of Buccleuch as a handloom weaving centre.  The Liddesdale Heritage Centre and Armstrong Clan trust reflect the interest in the area's past. 

Newcastleton is a popular base for exploring the surrounding hills and forest.  Kielder Forest, with its Reiver Cycling Route and Kielder Water, Europe's largest man-made lake, are within easy reach, both offering a wide range of facilities and spectacular scenery.

Hermitage Castle, the massive fortification of the 14th century, is close by
